I will have the Family Chain: A Tribute to Joe Isaacs Cd on sale through 12/15 for Christmas. Place your order today! Merry Christmas!

Friends, I wanted to tell you all about the wonderful revival we had at Slate Mountain. The Lord surely moved in a mighty way.

Sunday, I preached the morning and night service. I preached about the baptism of the Holy Ghost and being unified as a church during the revival. At the night service I preached about Cornelius and the promise given to the Gentiles as well. They not only heard the word, the accepted it! We had wonderful singing from the Comptons. Wow, they ministered! The Spirit of God was moving right off the bat.

Monday night, we had special singing from two young ladies, the Daltons, in the area. When I say young, I mean 10 and 12 years old! They were wonderful. They set the stage for another night of worship. Several people came to the altar to rededicate their lives to Jesus. God was just beginning to show these folks what HE was going to do!

Tuesday night, the Lord just showed off! I preached Lazarus and the rich man and heaven and hell. I felt the Holy Ghost move so sweetly during the service. Two people were saved at altar call, several rededicated, and healings had and were taking place. The pastor’s mother had a hip problem. We prayed and He answered. She testified the next day, “I’ve been running around the house like a 20 year old woman all day!”

The Spirit moved on me during altar call about someone who had contemplated suicide. She was the first to come to the altar! We rebuked that spirit in the name of Jesus. It had to leave!

Also, the music was great that night with Olin Garnder and his wonderful group. Junior Sisk, IBMA Male Vocalist of the YEar, sang too. He also got saved! Praise His name! The great banjo picker, Sammy Shelor, of the Lonesome River Band rededicated his life to the Lord. Things were going so well. We had to have another night! We had more news of healings of people that weren’t even at the church services, including one young lady who received healing of a hole in her eardrum!

Wednesday night was filled with more great music from Junior Sisk and Sammy. I preached about Job and taking back the things that the devil has stolen. The same Holy Ghost power came with great wonder. Two young ladies 10 and 12 were saved! Hallelujah!!!

It was hard to leave because God was doing such wonderful things. However, I had made a commitment to drive for the Isaacs that weekend. Nevertheless, more news of healing has been reported. One man with stage 4 cancer was completely healed! Jesus Christ is still in the healing business folks!

Thank you to all who attended and prayed for the revival, especially Pastor Jeff Dalton. You moved God and God moved us!!! I’m looking forward to the next revival at Slate Mountain. I have no doubt that God will show up. He always does!!! God bless you all.

God Still Performs Miracles

Hello friends. Any of you, who have read anything I’ve written, know that I am a Christian and I believe in miracles. A few weeks ago, God performed another miracle in my life that I must share with you.

Since moving to middle Tennessee last year, and I’m just being transparent, financially, things have been tight for me. I’m not complaining or poor mouthing. I knew and still know, that God is in control and He will provide. I sold all of my instruments, except for my fiddle that Jimmy Edmonds made for me, to pay my bills. So, as of a few weeks ago, I was playing a guitar that my good friend, Jimmy Edmonds, made and let me borrow. Now, don’t get me wrong. My wife has a couple of other guitars I could play, but I didn’t have one of my own.

We were scheduled to play in Bloomingdale, Georgia at Randy Wood’s guitar shop on the 17th of August. Keith Garrett and I rode down there together for the show. When I pulled into the parking lot at Randy’s, a man named Sam Skinner met me as I got out of my car. He said he had talked to me earlier in the year and he had something he wanted to show me.

We went inside Randy’s shop and he pulled out a beautiful guitar. He asked if I would play it. I was very excited to do so. It is made of curly Sapele wood. The top tight-grained is made of Sitka spruce. The comfortable and slim neck is made of mahogany. It is a beautiful instrument. Best of all, the guitar sounds like a vintage guitar. The tone is big and round, but clear. Overall, this guitar is a work of art.

As I sat there playing it, enjoying every note, Sam asked me if I liked it. Of course, I said, ”Yes! This is a great instrument.”

Sam smiled and said, “Good. It’s yours.”  I froze, because I didn’t know what he meant. I explained that I didn’t have the money to buy the guitar. He said, “I don’t want any money. I’m giving it to you.” I didn’t know whether to cry or jump for joy.

I said, “Sam, I don’t know what to say.”

He said, “You don’t have to say anything. Just play it and enjoy it.”

I have been waiting to write about this, because I wanted to say a special thanks to Sam and I wanted to brag on God. Folks, God is interested in your wants and your needs. I haven’t divulged what I’m going to tell you, not even my band mates. But a month or so before that day, I had considered leaving music again. My financial needs were worrying me. Any of you that know me, understand I don’t worry about much. However, when it comes to my family and their wellbeing, I will do whatever it takes to insure they’re taken care of. I asked God to direct me, not a sign. The Bible says a faithless generation seeks a sign. I’ve always tried to lean on His understanding, not my own. This is one of those times when God showed up with a sledgehammer! I’m supposed to be playing music. God knew I wanted a guitar of my own and he sent me one! Not a borrowed guitar, but my very own guitar was sent through Sam Skinner. Sam names the instruments he makes. Guess what the name of my instrument was? GRACE!!

Hallelujah!!

Sam, I hope this explains my speechlessness the night you gave me this instrument. Sometimes, God overwhelms me. This was one of those times. I’m so thankful to you for what you’ve done for me. I know the Lord will reward you for following your heart. I pray that the people who read this will consider one of your instruments as their own.

I love people with heart. Sam has heart and it shows in his instruments. Please consider a Skinner guitar when you are thinking of a custom instrument. You won’t be disappointed. Every detail is attended to with special care. I am going to include Sam’s information at the end of this writing.

Thank you, Lord. You never cease to amaze me. You have all power. You know, when we don’t. I trust and recognize You for who You are. Jehovah Jireh!!!

Here’s a question for you:

Do you believe in miracles? I do, all different kinds. I think a miracle happened when I passed trigonometry as a senior in high school. I think a miracle occurred when my mom and dad didn’t go nuts, when I was learning to play the fiddle. I know a miracle happened when I got saved (my pastor said so). I believe a miracle happened when Doyle Lawson decided to hire a guy who had absolutely no experience, as a guitarist and tenor singer, to play in his band. I know a miracle occurred, when I met my wife. Another miracle happened, when she married me.

I’ve witnessed many miracles personally. The birth of my son and my daughter were nothing short of miracles. One night at the Stanfield Church of God, a dear preacher, who had suffered greatly during his life, couldn’t minister, because his vision had gotten so bad, he couldn’t read the Bible. He asked that believers would lay hands on him and pray. Many of us did. After our prayer, he asked that someone bring him a Bible with the smallest print, so he could read it. He knew God had touched him. Wouldn’t you know it? My Bible, that my friend, Shelton Feazell, had given me had tiny print in it. We handed it to Brother Larry Holcomb, and he read it without missing a word!

Once, during an Isaacs show in Lenoir City, North Carolina, a woman came asking for prayer. She was very thin, and her skin color, grey. The doctors had given her, not months, but weeks to live. She had cancer. I asked that those who really believed that God could do a miracle to pray. To those who didn’t believe, I asked them to stand silently and reverently. When the prayer was over, the woman told me she felt something. I hugged her wondering if I would ever see her again. Six months later, we were in the area again. This lady walked up to me and said, “Remember me?” Embarrassed, I said no. She said, “I am the woman you prayed for in Lenoir City. God healed me.” I was shocked. I couldn’t believe this was the same woman standing in front of me. She looked completely healthy. Then again, why was I shocked? I’ve seen God do it many times.

The reason I bring up all these instances is I have experienced several miracles, myself. A few years ago, I woke up with a nagging headache. I did the usual aspirin, Tylenol, and ibuprofen; nothing worked. The days turned into weeks. For three weeks I suffered with that aggravating headache. It was beginning to affect my personality. I was grumpy and tired. Becky wasn’t liking it too well either! On Wednesday we went to Church. I decided, when I walked through the door, I had to have some relief. I asked everyone to pray for me. As my Church family laid their hands on me, I felt a warm sensation run up the back of my head. Instantly, the headache left!!!

A few years earlier (this is where I’m going to lose some of you) I experienced another miracle. This happened just a few months before Becky and I were married. I had come in off the road with Alison Krauss. I was tired and didn’t feel like going to church. But, Becky insisted that I go to a revival that had been going on at the La Follette Church of God. A preacher was preaching on a subject that, quite frankly, I didn’t understand or was interested in: the baptism of the Holy Ghost. He talked about, when Jesus ascended back into Heaven, how He gave us a promise. Acts Chapter 1 says, “For John truly baptized with water: but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.” He spoke about Acts Chapter 2 and the Upper Room experience. He explained it so well, but I began to think to myself, “That’s not for me.” Right at that moment, that preacher stretched his little bony finger, what seemed to be right at me, and said, “Don’t you doubt the Holy Ghost!” That got my attention. I listened intently the rest of the service. Now, you would think with the Spirit, moving the way it was in that service, that I would run to the altar. Nope! As soon as the altar call was made, I headed for the door. Just then, Becky grabbed my hand and said, “Let’s go pray.” We walked to the front of the church. There were many people praying and seeking God already. The preacher asked me if I had ever been filled with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking with other tongues. I said, “No.” He laid his hands on my forehead and began to pray. I was praying too. I have no other way to describe it other than to say God took over. People were dancing, shouting, and praising God. The Lord moved on me that night. I spoke in another tongue, as I had never done before. There were many others that were filled that night. Some gave interpretations. Mine experience was more like a prayer. There was no interpretation. The pastor of the church at that time thought it was important to make sure I understood what had happened. I knew, but I was grateful for the time he spent with Becky and I. I’ll never forget that night.

There are some people who would say that the experience I had wasn’t real. There are some who say that people cannot speak in other tongues, whether they are known or unknown. I say, bunk! If God could enable everyday human beings to speak with other tongues 2,000 years ago, He can do it today. And besides, isn’t this a miracle? Why is it so easy for people to believe in financial miracles? Healings? Wasn’t it God himself who said, “Is there anything too hard for the Lord?” If I remember correctly, this is when he told an 89 year old woman she was going to have a baby! Jesus raised people from the dead. No one who knows Him, as Savior, would deny those miracles happened.

Here’s what I think: I believe, when people don’t understand, it is easy to say it isn’t real. Those who have never experienced healing, have a hard time believing it. Some even go as far as to use the Bible to discredit miracles, saying that was only for the early Church. Again, I say, “Bunk!” I believe that God can do anything for His people. It is true that some falsely use these gifts from God for their own glory. God sees, and God knows.

There are many things that I don’t understand, but I want to. Remember the lady above who was healed in our service? Why did she get healed? I’ve seen some beautiful, faithful people suffer and die without their healing. I don’t know why they weren’t healed. But, I do know this: God is in control. God is on the Throne. I trust Him. I believe His Word. I will trust in it. There is no other way to Heaven. I am part of His Church. He blesses me every day. I thank Him for it. I thank Him for the gifts He gives. No, I don’t have all of them. I feel a lot like Paul, being the least among you. But, I am among you! I am a part. I praise God for it all.

I hope this is helpful to those of you who are looking for a deeper walk with God. We need to get closer to Him every day. I need and want to do more. I want ALL God has for me. Don’t you?

“WE ARE GOING TO THE OTHER SIDE!”

MARK 4: 35-41

HAVE YOU EVER FELT LIKE YOU WERE JUST EASING ALONG, ENJOYING LIFE? THEN, OUT OF NOWHERE, A STORM HITS! IT MAY BE SOMETHING WITH YOUR HUSBAND, WIFE, SON, DAUGHTER, OR YOUR JOB, TOTALLY, UNEXPECTED, RIGHT OUT OF THE BLUE. YOU DIDN’T HAVE ANY WARNING SIGNS. YOU WERE JUST SAILING ALONG WITH THE WIND AT YOUR BACK, WHEN THE BOTTOM FELL OUT.

IN 2000, I WAS PRIVILEGED TO TAKE A TRIP TO ISRAEL. ONE OF THE MOST ENJOYABLE ACTIVITIES WAS THE “JESUS BOAT” RIDE WE TOOK ON THE SEA OF GALILEE. WE LEFT FROM THE CITY OF TIBERIAS. WE TOOK THE NORTHERN ROUTE TOWARDS CAPERNAUM. WE HAD A WONDERFUL SERVICE. THE WEATHER WAS SO BEAUTIFUL. THE SUN WAS OUT AND IT WAS WARM, A SLIGHT BREEZE BLOWING. SUDDENLY THE WIND CHANGED DIRECTIONS AND THE BOAT BEGAN TO ROCK. WITHIN SECONDS, THE WAVES WERE NEARLY CRESTING OVER THE BOW OF THE BOAT. EVERYONE BECAME VERY FEARFUL. FORTUNATELY, WE WERE CLOSE ENOUGH TO SHORE THAT WE ONLY HAD TO ENDURE A FEW MINUTES OF THE WIND STORM. OH, BUT THAT DAY WAS A BLESSING. THE BIBLE CAME ALIVE RIGHT BEFORE OUR EYES!

  1. When Jesus speaks, we must listen

  1. verse 35 says, let us pass over to the other side
  2. purpose
  3. determination
  4. faith

  1. The Great Storm of Wind

  1. waves were so high, they filled the ships
  2. Jesus was asleep
  3. A question:

*Master, carest thou not that we perish? (Verse 38)

How many times have we asked this question in our hearts, when we are in the midst of a storm?

We need to stop and ask ourselves, is this a valid question? Do we really believe that Jesus doesn’t care if we die or going through pain? Of course, He does! This is a classic trick from the devil. Satan wants us to believe that Jesus takes us to the edge of a cliff and drops us off. But, it’s not true!!! The devil is a liar, and the father of lies. Don’t play his games.

  1. Jesus does 3 things

  1. he arose
  2. rebuked the wind
  3. spoke to the wind: “Peace, be still”

IV. Faith moves the storm

  1. we must arise from the storm
  2. commanded the wind and the storm
  3. your faith speaks. Speak aloud what you need!

Faith brings calmness in the midst of the storm. It brings peace.

*Jesus asks another question: “Why are ye so fearful: How is it that ye have no faith?”

Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please him”

Do you have the faith to believe that, if Jesus says you’re going to the other side, that you will? We must come to the place where we fully trust Jesus as Savior, and as King. Otherwise, we are going to have to ride out some storms, alone. The disciples had seen first hand what the Lord could do. They saw the miracles, one after another. But, when they thought they’d lose their lives, they questioned Him. God help us.

We have all done it. We have taken something someone said, something we’ve heard,
or something we, ourselves, want to believe, and taken it for truth without knowing
the facts. We will even go to extreme of believing our own untruths. During the last
presidential election, we heard a new term from the media to keep the candidates and
what they said honest: fact checkers. The word alone implies that people lie, and people
believe lies. The question is, why?

1. We have a sinful nature: The Garden of Eden

READ GENESIS 3: 1-5
the serpent lied to Eve
he contradicted God’s word
Eve made a choice. She could have believed God or the devil.

WE HAVE THE SAME CHOICE TODAY! WE CAN BELIEVE A LIE OR BELIEVE
GOD.

2. We believe our own lies

a. My own lie: I’M NOT FAT

READ 2ND SAMUEL 11 AND 12

b. David’s lie

David lied to himself when he stayed at home instead of going to battle, as he should
have. He lied to himself, when he saw Bathsheeba from his rooftop. He lied to himself
when he slept with her. He lied to himself when he sent Bathsheeba’s husband, Uriah, to
the front of the battle lines, so he would be killed. He lied when the prophet confronted
him.

When the prophet told the story about the selfish man who stole the sheep, David was so
angry. Nathan said, “Thou art the man!” In all this ugly tragedy the king not only lied to
himself, he lied to God.

FRIENDS, DON’T EVER THINK YOU ARE GETTING AWAY WITH YOUR
LIES. YOU MAY FOOL YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY, AND MAYBE EVEN YOUR
ENEMIES. YOU CAN NEVER FOOL GOD!

c. Don’t think that lies won’t cost you

3. Let’s consider Judas Iscariot

a. Matthew 26: 14 talks about how Judas literally bought the life of Jesus for 30
pieces of silver (at the time my commentary was written, about $20). From that
time on, Judas looked for a way to deliver Jesus to the chief priests. As the Last
Supper was taking place, Jesus told the 12 what was going to happen. When Judas
asked, “Is it I?” knowing it was, Jesus said, “Thou hast said.”

b. In Matthew 27, Judas begins to realize what he has done. In desperation he takes
the money back to the priests. They won’t take it. Then he begins to be sorrowful.

IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO BE SORROWFUL! YOU MUST REPENT BEFORE
GOD.

Then, Judas goes out, not being able to live with what he did, and hung himself. Jesus
said earlier, that it would have been better that he hadn’t been born than to betray the
Son of God.

4. How do I keep from lying to myself and to others?

Get saved
Study God’s Word
Go to Church
Be honest with yourself and others

JOHN 4:23 AND 24 SAYS, “BUT THE HOUR COMETH, AND NOW IS, WHEN
TRUE WORSHIPPERS SHALL WORSHIP THE FATHER IN SPIRIT AND IN
TRUTH, FOR THE FATHER SEEKETH SUCH TO WORSHIP HIM. (God is looking
for you! He wants commune with you.) GOD IS A SPIRIT: AND THEY THAT
WORSHIP HIM MUST WORSHIP HIM IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH.”

5. Jesus is our example: MATT. 4: 1-11

a. Jesus was led to be tempted

THE WAY TO OVERCOME TEMPTATION IS TO CONFRONT IT HEAD-ON!

b. he fasted for 40 days and nights
c. How did Jesus defend himself?

WITH THE WORD OF GOD!!

d. What did the devil do?

HE MADE PROMISES HE COULDN’T KEEP!

Verse 6 says he asked Jesus to commit suicide. Jesus fought with the Word.

In verse 9 he promised to give Jesus the kingdoms of the world and all their glory. Who
owns the earth and all it’s fullness?

In verse 10, Jesus said, “Get the hence, satan: for it is written, ‘Thou shalt worship the
Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve.’”

THIS IS WHAT WE NEED TO DO!! WE COMMAND THE DEVIL TO LEAVE US
USING GOD’S WORD AS OUR WEAPON.

READ EPHESIANS 6: 13-17

In closing, we saw how David’s lies entangled him in a messy web of sin. Judas may
have believed he was doing Jesus a favor. He was doing the devil’s work. In the end he
lost his life by his own hands. Both of these men believed their own lies. It cost them
dearly. You don’t have to suffer the same fate. You can truly repent and turn to the Lord,
who is Truth.

I have been thinking about the children of Israel. They became satisfied with slavery. They had a “life” although it was in servitude. They had land, animals, shelter, food, and to a certain extent, protection. What they didn’t have was freedom. They were in bondage. They were separated from God. Why? Because of their own choosing! Yes! It was their choice! They chose to be in bondage. They valued personal possessions and apathy over their blessing that God had prepared for them. It took God sending a Hebrew prophet among the Egyptians to motivate them into standing up for themselves and into the place where God wanted them to be.

  1. The Egyptians recognized how the population of the Israelites was growing. Exodus tells us how they set taskmasters over the Hebrews to “afflict” them. Pharoah was so scared of the Jews and what they might do to his kingdom, that he commanded that all Hebrew boys be cast into the river. BUT, God was in the works. Out of that genocide came the prophet Moses. And it was by Moses, that God set His children free. It just wasn’t that simple though.

  1. Pharoah had to be convinced to let the children of Israel go. So, 12 plagues were placed upon him and his people. Finally, after losing his son, the Pharoah let them go. So God gave a cloud of protection by day and fire by night to protect Moses and lead them to the Red Sea. At that very moment they began to complain. God began to give Moses instruction. The Egyptian army was handed a huge defeat as the Red Sea parted for the children and fell in on the Egyptians as they pursued afterwards.

  1. One has to wonder, after giving Israel such a great victory, why He would lead them into the wilderness? The only answer that makes sense is that He wanted them to learn to depend on Him. There is nothing in the desert. God worked miracle after miracle to provide for them. Remember, the reason they left Egypt was to go to the Promised Land. Instead of heading North into what is now Israel, they went south deep into the desert. God was teaching them in every way. From the Commandments, the Ark and to the Levitical law, it was all part of God’s plan. All along the way, they wandered in the wilderness just a short distance from the promised land.

  1. After the rebellion of Aaron and Miriam, Moses, at God’s command, sent the heads of the tribes to see what the land held and who lived there. 10 gave a bad report and 2 gave a good report. At that moment the children of Israel could have believed God and took the land that was promised to them and crossed over into their destiny. Instead, they murmured against Moses and the Lord, and refused to go into the land out of fear. The sentence from God was hard, but it was just. 40 years of wandering, because they still had not learned to trust Him.

***This all could have been avoided, if the children had chosen to trust God. How many times have we stood on the doorstep of blessing, which is our destiny, and turned around and walked away from it?

EXAMPLE:

David had won victory after victory with the Lord’s help. He rose from being a shepherd boy to the King of Israel, a man after God’s own heart. One day, instead of going to battle and fighting, he decided he would hang out at the house. He let his desires get the best of him. And by his choice, he fell into an ugly cycle of sin, which cost 2 people their lives. He could have walked away from the rooftop and headed out to do what God called him to do, but he didn’t. It altered his destiny and that of his family, as well.

ON THE OTHER HAND:

When God let the devil tempt Job, he could’ve followed his wife’s advice and cursed God. Instead, he decided that regardless of what happened to him or what it cost him, he was going to trust God. In the end He recovered all. That was his destiny.

Esther knowing what her own people, the Jews were facing, decided to go before the king and plead with him. She said, “IF I PERISH, I PERISH.” In the end she saved her people. That was her destiny.

WHAT IF THESE PROPHETS AND PROPHETESS HAD SAID, NO, IT’S NOT WORTH IT? I MUST SAVE MYSELF. I MUST GO MY OWN WAY.

They would have missed out on their destiny with God!

READ ROMANS 8:1-14

Here is a little commentary to go along with the Scripture:

Verse 1: No matter what men say about you, there is no condemnation in knowing Jesus because we walk after the Spirit. His Spirit!
Verse 2: the Spirit of life in Christ (that’s your relationship) frees you from sin and death
Verse 3: he says the law was weak through the flesh. Weak comes from the Greek word astheneo which means impotent. The law was powerless to stop sins of the flesh.
Verse 4: The Spirit man brings righteousness, not the flesh.
Verse 5: People who walk after the flesh “do mind” in the Greek means set their affections on fleshly sins.
Verse 6: carnally and spiritually minded means the same thing as verse 5.
Verse 7: the carnal mind cannot obey the law of God.
Verse 8: you cannot please God with a carnal mind
Verse 9: Paul says we, as Christians, are not in the flesh. We are in the Spirit. If you’re not, you aren’t one of His.
Verse 10: If Christ’s Spirit lives in you, your body is already dead. The Spirit is alive because of righteousness. Not our own righteousness, but Jesus.
Verse 11: quicken in the Greek is zoopoieo which means make alive, give life
Verse 12: we don’t owe the flesh anything!
Verse 13: flesh = death; the Spirit = life
Verse 14: we are the sons of God!

WE CANNOT MISS OUR DESTINY IF WE ARE WALKING BY THE SPIRIT! THE TRIAL MAY BE HARD. IT MAY BE LONG. WE MIGHT THINK, WHEN WILL IT END? BUT HAVE FAITH, CROSS OVER, BE ENCOURAGED, LIVE IN THE SPIRIT. IT IS THE ONLY WAY TO YOUR BLESSING.

IT IS THE ONLY WAY TO YOUR DESTINY.

PRAY THIS PRAYER WITH ME: LORD, I KNOW YOU HAVE A PLAN FOR MY LIFE. YOUR PLAN INCLUDES THAT I BE BLESSED. I KNOW, IF I FOLLOW AFTER YOUR SPIRIT, I WILL BE BLESSED. I KNOW, IF I LISTEN TO YOUR VOICE, I WILL NOT MISS MY DESTINY. JESUS, RENEW MY MIND, SO THAT I CRAVE WHAT YOU WANT, AND NOT WHAT I WANT. LORD, HELP ME TO BE OBEDIENT AND TO FOLLOW YOUR LEAD. IN JESUS NAME, AMEN.
